Meeting Minutes - June 15 2005 |
NEXT MEETING: July 13, 2005. St.
Paul Lutheran Church. 7pm
- Thank You:
a. A big thank you to Pastor Perling and St. Paul for use of
the Hall.
- Treasurer Position:
a. Position for Treasurer of the Byram Neighborhood
Association is open. Please contact
Mike Bocchino if you are interested in filling this
position. We would like to take a vote on it at our July
2005 Meeting.
- Open Seats on the RTM
a. There are four (4) open seats on the RTM for the Byram
district. If you are interested in filling a position,
please see Bob McKnight or Mike
Bocchino.
- NY State Thruway:
a. An Open House will be held on June 16, 2005 at the
Mansion @ Crawford Park, located in Rye Brook, NY to give
the public the opportunity to review the recent design
changes and progress made in regards to the reconstruction
of I-95 between Midland Ave in Rye/Port Chester, NY and the
CT state line.
- Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink / Byram Field:
a. Sal Strazza reported on the possible expansion of the
current rink at Dorothy Hamill. A study was being done by
the Town of Greenwich Parks and Recreation Department to put
a second rink in place of the ball field currently in place
(Byram Field).
b. Many senior residences from the Vinci Drive Housing
Complex enjoy the ball games during the warmer seasons.
c. Greenwich Jr. Babe Ruth league will approach this
situation, they do ask for our support. Major league sized
ball fields are lacking in the town of Greenwich.
- BANC After School Program:
a. It has come up again that the town is looking into
closing down the BANC After School Program.
b. BANC needs the support of the community to make sure it
stays open for the area children.
- Thomas Lyon House:
a. The Historical Society is looking to move the Thomas Lyon
house (located at the corner of Byram Road and the Post
Road) and convert it to a two-family low income housing.
b. This is possibly the oldest house in town and is listed
on the National Register of Historic Places. Please see

- Byram Volunteer Fire Department:
a. Mailing for the annual fund drive will be going out.
b. There will be a concert night with a “U-2” tribute band
on August 27, 2005 at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park. Concert
will begin at 7:30 pm. There will be a radio station there
from 5:30 – 7:30 pm with give a ways.
c. Donation at gate is requested.
- Byram Shubert Library:
a. Library Expansion design is on display at the Library.
b. Please note, though not discussed, the Byram Shubert
Library is looking for donations for their fall book sale.
Collection date: June 25, 2005 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
outside the entrance to the Library. Flyer was left at the
meeting on June 15, 2005.
c. Summer Reading Program will hold its kick off on June 30,
2005 with Pizza Party beginning at 5pm.
- Byram Enhancement Plan:
a. Paul Pugliese reported on the Enhancement Plan. On May
19, 2005 the Byram Planning Group Members met with several
planners in regards the Enhancement Plan.
b. As of June 15, 2005 a planner has been chosen: Crosby/Slessenger.
c. Plan is on display at the Main Library.
- BNA Website:
a. The Byram Neighborhood Association will have a website-

b. A big thank you to the Wahba Family & Tim Judge for
making this happen.
- Volunteers:
a. The BNA is looking for volunteers. Anyone who is
interested in Byram History, has knowledge of the history of
Byram or who just wants to get involved should please see
Mike Bocchino.
- Presentation- Safe Routes to School Program:
a. Presented by Francisco Gomes.
b. Please see attached brochure on the SRS Program.
